Dear grade 5's and 4's parents,

Today we did an art project where the students' drew a keyhole and designed an image in the middle.  Students' were asked to take their knowledge of Canada's different regions or Alberta's different regions to construct picture.
The grade 5's have started learning about the 6 different regions in Canada.  Here is a link to the site with all the different regions.

Cartographie

Dear Parents/Students,
We have been working hard on learning the how to use a map.  Students even had a chance to use a paper map to locate their city and other locations using longitude and latitude.

Today in class we will review how the earth is divided into hemispheres and look at the location of the prime meridian and the equator.

Here is a link to a video to help students understand concepts we will be learning in class and a game to reinforce the concepts.

Les Points Cardinaux

Hello Parents/Students,

We did a session on the cardinal points (les points cardinaux) today.  Students are expected to know:
"Nord, Sud, Est, Ouest".  They should also know the "points intermédiaires": Nord-Ouest, Sud-Ouest, Sud-Est, et Nord-Est.

We learned what a compass is in French "une Boussole" and what "La rose des vents" is and how it is used on a map.

Students can continue to play and watch the videos to get familiar with these concepts.

Here is a fun science experiment you can do at home find magnetic north using a needle and a magnet.

Next class we will be doing longitude and latitude and how to use a legend.

Dear grade 4/5 parents,

After reviewing the sites/resources available for your child, I have decided to only use this blog for sending out info about what we are learning in class (in English).  I will not download assignments or other classwork on this blog, as students will use office 365 classroom for future transmission and submission of work online.  I will continue to upload videos and games that we use in class and that your child can continue to use or share with you.

Today the grade 5's practiced for their science test by playing a fun game of Jeopardy.  Tomorrow students will write their test in Mme Brassard's classroom.

The grade 4's continued learning about the 6 regions of Alberta and finished learning about "Les contreforts", which is the foothills of Alberta.  So far we have learned about the Rocky Mountains and the Foothills.  Feel free to ask them questions about the land, climate, animals, plants and natural resources we find in these regions.

Welcome to the new Science and Social blog where I can connect to the parents/students and make sure I keep you up to date with what is happening in the classroom.  Today the 5s finished their final experiment in electricity and we will have an exam on Tuesday.  I will post a list of important concepts to study in their grade 5 section of this blog.

The Grade 4's continued learning about Alberta and the 6 different regions.
